The new Berlin Airport currently in construction will be named after former chancellor Willy Brandt. Brandt served as chancellor of West Germany from 1969 - 1974 and is remembered as an important force in the development of relations between the West and Easy Germany, Poland, and the Soviet bloc. He was recognized as Time's Man of the Year in 1970, and won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1971.

The Willy Brandt airport is due to open in 2011 and will replace Berlin's current hubs Schoenefeld and Tegel.

"It's to be hoped that the new airport is is accessable . As it is now SXL is a terrible place .Takes an hour by speedy train to get their if you live in the west of Berlin.Staff tend to be rude , unlike TXL , anbd boy is it dirty . No lifts or moving stairs for people with difficulties .So the new one has to have a lot ! As for TXL It should never close .Builtin record time it is THE most user friendly airport in world and oh so clean and civilzed .I doubt SXL wll ever match it"
