Gerichtslaube

|
The Gerichtslaube's history is a somewhat gory one, with more deaths and brutality than anything Hollywood could imagine.
The building dates back to the 1270s, and was used as was where serious offenders were punishment. What constituted serious back then was, for example, the theft of a herring. Hanging, beating, burning out of eyes, smashing of teeth, removal of ears, disembowelments, impalings, dismemberments... punishments left little to the imagination.
It's a quieter and, thankfully, less judgemental venue these days - a restaurant with an excellent reputation for not just food but also wine and service, and is happy to welcome families with children. |
