Elvis iconography, skulls, guitars and a framed picture of dear ol' Billy Idol adorn the dusky red walls of one of the coolest bars in the city. In the midst of a slew of great drinking dens in Friedrichshain, Room 14 is a joint enterprise with the splendid Berlin rock band Tunes of Dawn and within its compact confines offers an air of welcome that is all-embracing. The bar is frequented by an abundance of extremely friendly local folk who all seemingly possess impeccable English as well as a desire to have a drink, a game of darts, and most importantly, a laugh, with any willing visitor. Besides instant camaraderie the bar also offers delightfully liberal opening hours, a dizzyingly vast array of spirits and a pleasingly eclectic music policy that ensures you are never far away from an agreeable tune, or indeed a moment of hilarity. In short, very highly recommended. | |
