The Mendelssohn were a family that touched history in many ways, and much of this was played out in Berlin. It began with the Jewish philosopher Moses, whose sons Joseph and Abraham founded a bank and found a base for it in the building that now houses the museum. There is much in the museum's exhibitions about the history of the bank, but the exhibits run much deeper than this, exploring the ties that bound Jewish and German and helped to shape the nation. Of course, what most people know about this family is that two of Moses' grandchildren, Fanny and Felix, went on to become great composers. A visit to this museum will flesh out the picture of the family as a whole, and the influence they had on Berlin, Germany and Europe.
