Berlin-Marienfelde Refugee Camp

|
It's strange to think of mass migration and refugee camps in the context of modern Western Europe, but such things did happen. The Marienfelde Refugee Centre Museum is testament to this, and to the massive population shifts in Germany between 1949 and 1990.
This was no small scale migration; some 1.3 million people
left the former East Germany for West Germany, and many of them were recieved first at Marienfelde. The site now houses an exhibition about these people, about their personal escape stories, and about how they were recieved in the west. |
