Anti-War Museum

Surprisingly, this is not a modern museum, nor does it date from after the second world war. Berlin's Anti-Kriegs Museum was in fact founded in 1925, by anarchist Ernst Friedrich in response to the first world war. The Nazis did not take kindly to such pacifist views and destroyed the collection, but it was reborn in the 1980s and now runs as a volunteer, not for profit organisation. The museums exhibits remind visitors of the realities of wars gone by, but one of the most striking and memorable features is a map charting wars today. There's also a chance to step into the isolation of a bomb shelter, and perhaps feel a little of the tension that everyday Berliners faced as the RAF rained down death from above.
