The Berggruen is handily located for a visit while dropping by the Charlottenburg Palace, just opposite. It is a favourite among connoisseurs of fine modern art, because it houses the collection of Heinz Berggruen, who could boast works by Picasso, Klee, Matisse and Giacometti among his personal possessions. Of course, other artists are represented too, but the very heart of the Berggruen's treasures are the 100-plus works of Picasso. This collection covers the eccentric artist's entire career, from his early days as a student scribbler, right up to 1972. The museum itself has undergone extensive renovation, but is expected to be fully operational by 2012.
