East Side

The Berlin Wall was never built to be pretty. It was a functional barrier erected to mark territory and to keep people out (or in, depending on your point of view).
Now, however, one section of the former divide between east and west has found a new use, as the largest open air art gallery in the world.
A 1.3 kilometre long section of the wall has been adorned by paintings, largely by urban artists from across the globe. In all, there are 106 pictures, representing all manner of themes and ideas, which are presented collectively under the banner of the International Memorial for Freedom. |
