Georg Kolbe Museum

|
Part memorial, part museum, this is the former workshop of the sculptor Georg Kolbe.
In fact, Kolbe toyed with the idea of becoming a painter, but soon took to sculpture and began to develop his own ideas. These developed into a style that is recognisable as something of a modern take on classical Greek works, as he concentrated largely on creating representations of the perfect human body, both male and female.
He was commissioned for private and public work, most controversially by the Nazis, and examples of his sculpture can now be seen around the world. |
