Oldest, longest, brainiest... three claims to fame of the Archenhold astronomical observatory in Berlin's Treptower Park. Oldest, because, well, it's Germany's oldest observatory, having opened in 1896. Longest - that refers to the 21-metre telescope housed there, built by Friedrich Simon Archenhold. It was at the time the largest in the world, and is still in use today. And brainiest? Because it was at the Archenhold observatory that a chap called Albert Einstein gave physics a kick into the modern age and changed the world by announcing his theory of relativity.
