Nightlife in Berlin
There's no where in the world that can compete with Berlin when it comes to the sheer diversity of it's nightlife. Berlin is arguably the hippest city in the world, which means you can find everything from pubs housed in derelict ruins to funky beach bars (albeit by the Spree side and not the seaside). It is also knocking on Amsterdam's door for the title of most liberal city in Europe and so as well as the standard rock, alternative and techno clubs you'll also find some more off-beat establishments! If you see any of the Berlin Life team at any such places we assure you that we're only there for research purposes...
Possibly the only downside to the Berlin nightlife is that it's notoriously difficult to navigate. Berlin is a vast city and tracking down the elusive door that is going to lead you to nocturnal heaven can be tricky. A lot of the best pubs, bars and clubs don't go out of the way to advertise themselves, meaning of course the punters have all the more fun when they finally do arrive! On the other hand you're only in Berlin for a short time right and you don't want to spend it wandering the streets asking hapless passer-bys where's the nearest hotspot, so read on for some top tips...
Well the Mitte district has been the place to be for some time now. The former Eastern bloc slum has undergone a wonderful renaissance, meaning that whilst it has retained a few characteristic rough edges it also boasts top venues such as King Kong Klub, Kaffee Burger and Weekend to name but a few. Kreuzberg is another area worth investigating. More edgy than Mitte, and with a large number of artists and immigrants, it's slowly forging it's own reputation as a happening district. Equally, as Mitte has become more gentrified and touristy, residents of Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain are seeing some of the most hip and interesting spots spring up on their doorsteps. Try Club Maria or Spindler & Klatt for two completely different but equally cool venues. Fans of David Bowie meanwhile should make a line for Schoneburg, as this is where androgynous popstar and cult hero used to live and hangout. Today the area is extremely popular with Berlin's gay community with some fantastic cafes and clubs to check out.
Club-wise the Berlin nightlife really does spoil for choice, especially in the techno department where the city is recognised as a leading light around the world. Watergate and Tresor are two big names that revellers won't want to pass by, although if you're only in town for one night it has to be the already legendary Berghain and Panorama Bar - weaklings need not apply!

|  I'm thinking of going to Berlin for a long weekend with my friends for my 21st at the end of January/ early February. We are all serious club-lovers and are into all sorts of music. I've heard Berlin is famed for it's early 90s-esque clubs scene so we're really up for trying some clubs like that.

Never met a bunch of doormen who were so up their own asses. If your not from Berlin ur going 2 have a hard time in the big clubs! Just thought we'd let u know!! |

| Ok kiddies. A lot of your questions will be answered by...me. I'm an American exchange student and have been in the B for about 5 months. Those of you youngsters (>22y/o) will definitely have some problems at the bigger clubs like Watergate and Berghain. You need to look "interesting" "gay" "the part". They are both fantastic joints tho. Weekend is always a sure win for just about anyone. AMPM is always easy for touristy folks. Have to take into consideration the amount of tourists looking to rock these places, but the club managers and door men may not be so keen on letting you in. There are huge image complexes amongst these clubs and they have reputations to uphold. Last suggestion, if you do find yourself in the line at some of the bigger clubs, especially Berghain, try not to appear "western" or speak too much English. Besides that, tear this place up, its a riot folks! |

| i have to say that i was in berlin for 4 months, and watergate was BY FAR the best club i went to. the scene was incredible and the DJs were impeccable. it was so vivacious, but also on the small side that made me actually want to stay and get to know some people. the atmosphere was just fantastic. i would visit again and again. |

| someone asked about the age to get in to a club. you must be 18 to enter a nightclub, but to get in to a pub 16 is enough. Even thoug that you have to be 18 for the clubs, there will be ecxeptions, lots of them, so just dress fancy, you'll get in. |

| Berlin is like any other major city. If you bother to investigate clubs and nightlife before you go out you save yourself a lot of hassle.
Ask someone who lives there! Talk to the locals, they will put you straight.
If all else fails go to the KITKAT CLUB! |

| You really need to have idea of where to go before you head out otherwise you'll end up walking aimlessly down empty streets (as we did) and pitching up in the first place you come to, even if that happens to be a tiny underground kareoke bar (as it was). Still, a good time was had by all. |
